I have the honor to inform you with regard to my decision of submitting my candidacy for the presidency of Romania, decision taken this autumn in the spirit of the integration of Romania within the European structures, with the noble goal of actively participating to the integration and socialization of Rroma people into the great European family, through a sustained support in view of adopting solutions for reducing the unemployment within the Rroma population; approaching the education issue for the Rroma people (under some of its most urgent aspects – participation, integration, elimination of school abandonment, etc.); analysis of issues connected to culture and traditions, under the aspect of integration not assimilation, of issues connected to health and the access of Rroma people to public services, negatively expressed through the lack of implication of the rightful authorities.

The efforts that I have made for the past 20 years will not be over at the end of this campaign. But we still have to be realistic, aware that there are differences that separate us, generated by the differences in mentality, belonging to different socio – ethnic categories, etc. This is the moment when tradition must join modernity in order to be able to hope for the fulfillment of the unique goal that is defining a future based on culture and traditions but living the times of our life, under the auspices of continuity through integration and not through assimilation.

We have a few important directions of action, our priorities, within the context of a natural solidarity that will allow us to reduce the above mentioned differences. These priorities are referring mainly to the development of a communication network, modernizing the school system by initiating reform acceleration procedures necessary to its bringing to the level of standards imposed by the realities of the III-rd millennium, to the promotion of research and innovation as main element, essential to the modernization of the social system of a country and to increase its competitiveness, there is a great need of investments in the health care field and, last but not least, we must take care of the rural development, especially agriculture, considering that in Romania, one third of its population activates in the rural environment, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that everybody makes agriculture. All these complex processes generating radical changes are meant to build the foundation, the starting point of implementing in practice our common ideological aspirations.
